Hi all I'm a new member to this site but have read many threads on here as a guest I just need a bit of advice in the past I've had 3 discovery 1s and my mrs brought me a td5 as a surprise for my birthday well she brought one with the dreaded air bags already removed as she has heard me say that I would buy one without but unfortunatly they removed the airbags replaced them with uprated springs and shocks and also heavy duty arbs but after going through all that expense they left the pump and block still attached well any way I drove this to the beach yesterday got back and there was smoke coming from under the bonnet so had a quick look and the reservoir for the ace system is empty and the pump was very hot and smoking just wondered how I can get round this or do I have to pay to get all of this removed thanks and hope someone can help :)

Thanks but would it be better to remove the lot now as there is no longer air bags on the car

Thats a decision only you can make.
In my opinion -
The ACE system is costly to keep on top of, I couldn't be bothered with the hassle and to be honest don't notice any difference. Some say there is a big difference.
It was just one more thing I could live without when it started to leak.
The SLS on the other hand is an easy system to maintain and I have successfully kept in going with new bags, sensors etc, that said I do a lot of towing and wouldn't be without it.

Hi thanks again I will send it in to the garage tomorrow and see what they say as I really don't want to mess with something I nothing about thanks again for your reply and time

The ACE is separate to the airbags (SLS) I believe. The bags don't inflate differently to enhance cornering - they couldn't react fast enough! ;)

If you've got away with not trashing the ACE pump etc. then I'd be tempted to keep it. Yes, it's a damned expensive bit of kit to replace if it goes badly wrong, but preventative and early maintenance is the key.

My D2 was on coils and had the ACE bypassed before I bought it.
