Help.....Need a gearbox for the above, anyone got one, know anyone with one, know anyone that fits them? In Derby

Out of curiosity, how much would you pay for a recon box? Also how many miles can you do before you would consider the prospect of yours failing and needing changing??

MudRat

200k before worn out 70k on may need clutch pack A or freewheel clutch ,but very few fix them just fit recon as people dont understand or scared of gearboxes recon costs £600-£1000

Almost certainly selling this Disco have been quoted £2000+ to fit a box to it, just dont have that kind of cash, so annoyed as really love the car and when its driving properly and changing gear like it should its great. Really thought I had a good one:(

Ashcrofts fitted my Auto box, oil cooler and new pipes, total cost £1000 fitted. At that frice they also fitted a V8 TC as well so now the TC locks about 2200rpm.

you can get it done cheaper than that unless you want to sell me it minus your repair cost ,price up used box and add £300-£400 for fitting

Think the guy who sold it to me saw me coming, lone female!! serves me right I guess for taking smeone at face value.(not loking for sympathy should have got it checked out) Paid nearly £7000 for her thinking a newer one was the best option and that it would last a long time. Did your Ashcroft price include the box??? probably not.... Cant do it myself and only option is a garage - hence the price....

get a price for used box .find a part .breakeryard .com etc ,are best way of finding unit ask for warrenty ,if you get stuck i can fit it

Oh I am stuck have a drop dead gorgeous Discovery that either stays in 1st and then dumps into 3rd then flashes Marks and Spencers at me OR changes gear like it should. Been on the diagnostics and the xyz switch is fine the little cable that wears is OK too so its been narrowed down to a sensor in the box - oh and its losing oil too through bolts and stuff if anyone can fix it will be happy to pay the going rate. Will contact Ashcrofts tomorow - Thanks everyone :tea:

then flashes Marks and Spencers at me .....LOL .but the autobox on the D2 is a pain ive had 2 boxes from ashcrofts and they are good but expensive 700 without fitting . so if you get a good used one with warranty as James said then you should be ok

Finally convinced my other half that its worth investing in her and so have found someone - local garage with a good rep to fit a box for me for £200 cash. So all I need to do is source a box..Going to go for a recon as one from a breakers seems to be only slightly less than a recon and seems a better option? Going to ring Ashcrofts and also a company called Cleckheaton amongst a list, hoping to get one for around £600 that will leave a little to drop the oil, a job I didnt get round to because the beast broke down on me before I had the chance....Feel more positive now :D
