Hello

I am looking for some help and I hope someone out there can advise.
I am rebuilding my defender 110 and have fitted a Td5 engine and automatic gearbox from a discovery II.
Mechanically all has gone to plan and I have just started the wiring but I have been told that if I use the gearbox ecu and the body control unit from the discovery I will need to disable a lot of the functions of the BCU as the defender will not produce the relevant signals.
The other alternative is to wire as a manual defender and feed any signals to the gearbox ecu that will be needed, but I am not sure what these are.
So has anyone asked this before or have you done this and if so what’s the best way to approach it? Can I use software alter the expectations of the BCU or do I need to find a different way round the problem.
I have had a look at the compushift unit but wanted to keep all the bits land rover if possible.
Any advice or product information you think is relevant will gratefully received

Many thanks

Tim

I would look into what extra feeds there are and there are some lengthy articles and discussions on the web about this and see where you could join wires, separate wires connect resistors and things in to create "false signals".

There is a guy out there somewhere who took a TD5 Disco engine and got the whole lot to run standalone on a test rig before he fitted it to his Defender. It was on a blog I think. He showed you which wires he just removed, which ones to fake feeds into etc etc.
