My 2003 facelift TD4 would not start today. It will run with easystart sprayed into the air intake. The in-tank pump does not prime when the key is turned. I also found a relay that is burnt out and melted it's holder. The relay is on the bulkhead (just above the red fuel cut-off) and is covered with a black rubber cover. What does this relay do? does anybody have a part number for it? and can I get a new holder?

If it runs fine when, started with easy start but as soon as you switch off will not fire again then you have a leaking back injector, you only have one fuel pump in the o/s rear wheel arch on yours.

I did not explain myself very well in the first post, it will fire with easy start but not continue running. I did not know mine did not have an in-tank pump either.

Prob the pump us, get underneath and give it a tap it has been known to work.
As for the pump relay look at this.

Fuel Pump Relay
The fuel pump relay coil (C0730) receives a feed from the energised main relay, which is
also located in the engine compartment fuse box. The earth path for the relay coil (C0575)
is controlled by the ECM (C0331) on a BP wire. The energised fuel pump relay enables a
feed from fuse 10 of the engine compartment fuse box (C0575) to flow across the relay
switch contacts (C0572) to the low pressure fuel pump (C0205) on a WP wire. The pump
(C0205) is earthed on a B wire.

Just a quick update, the freedee is back up and running now:bounce:. Booboodag thanks for the location advice for the pump, I removed it, put it on the bench and connected 12v and away it went, pumping like a good'un so I fitted it back on thinking something else must be wrong. I turned the ignition key and heard a buzz from the pump and then it started and its started every time since. I may get a spare in stock just in case it goes again as its the wifes car and she does not walk to good, after having her right leg crushed by a 4 ton fork truck, so I do not want her stranded anywhere.
The burnt out relay I have found out is for the glow plugs so I need to get a new one.
As always the owners forums are the best place to find good advice.:D
