HI I HAVE REMOVE THE AIR MANIFLOD FROM THE ENGINE TO CHECK THE GLOW PLUGS WHEN I START THE TD4 UP THERE IS A LACK OF POWER AND WHITE SMOKE FROM THE REAR IS THIS THE NORMAL WHEN THE AIR MANIFOLD IS OFF.

with the intake manifold removed ..

the intake air flow would bypass:

the air-filter
the MAF sensor ..
the turbo
the intercooler
the air-intake-temp sensor ( either together on the MAF .. or separate on the intercooler hose )
EGR valve ( if fitted )
the MAP sensor

can't imagine it would run very well :)

there's a link ( or two ) here ..
gives a .pdf file describing much about the td4/m47r engine ..
i.e. how it operates ..

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/td4-m47r-engine-pdf-file.288724/#post-3564507

have just checked the .pdf link .. and it works

the text does not include the vnt type turbo as fitted to freelander1's ..
nor the later model low pressure fuel system set up ..

I ran my TD4 with new silicone hoses fitted but not tightened up. Smoked like a train even while only ticking over. Soon as I tightened them up it was fine.
