Hi have been going round in circles sorting TD4 issues........the final one
I am trying to resolve is low speed vibration. This occurs from 1400-1800rpm with a slightly rough but steady idle. Vibration occurs in all gears and at vertually all loads in 4th this annoying equates to around 30-35mph
and 5th around 45mph. Vibration felt through s/wheel, seat and plastics vibrate.

Now the wiered thing is when i bought the car vibration was barely apparant. But since changing the badly choked air filter the vibration seems far worse! The car generally appears to go quite well....and is flexible torquey and likes to rev up to 4000.... with no visable smoke.

Could I be experiencing MAF deterioation.......I have read somewhere .... you can clean the MAF......are there any posts on this.....one thing I have noticed the EGR is not too clever and is in need of cleaning. I have not as i am going to fit a bypass soon.........has anybody any similar experience with a resolution.....

D3savage I got almost the same issue. It is most noticable on 5th gear and yes it is happening approximately at 45mph (~1500RPM). It can be felt while pressing down the gas pedal going uphill but also going on a leveled road with a bit more gas. I did some diagnostics of my own and figured out that this problem occurs (noticably) ONLY on 5th gear. I did that by going through all gears separately (one by one) and trying to see if there is any connection to the revs on some other gear than 5th. I did rev her on neutral too. She didnt show any sings of vibration or whatsoever.

So my question is can anyone point out the problem using the info I`ve provided or do I have to any extra info which I am currently no aware what could be relevant to the issue? The other option I can think of is If anyone has already written about this please post a link to the thread as I did a search and it didnt return useful info. (i may have scre**d something.) thank you guys

When mine had the symptoms you describe it turned out to be a duff injector...
I would also try cleaning the fuel rail pressure sensor plug.

Thanks for the reply. I have sorted it out. It was a boost hose. The one going to the EGR valve( or in my case the egr blanking kit).

Different car but similar problem.

My old Audi A3 diesel quattro had the same vibration problem.

There was a number of things to check:

- Engine Mounts
- Aux belt tightness
- Aux belt pulleys
- Alternator pulley and output voltage
- Injectors
- Clutch (DMF)
- Engine Oil
- Battery

In the end changing the engine oil and fitting a new battery cleared up the vibration (which would shake the whole car) and a starting issue it had (I suspect the battery change fixed this).

It may be that with a clogged air filter the car was down on power and you had to rev it higher. Clearing that problem opened a new one :)

lol, just noticed the original date!
