Spluttering Freelander

Hello,

I have a 2006 Freelander TD4 which has started occasionally to splutter just once every now and again.

Also, when I start the engine from warm, it seems to tick over just below where it normally does but rights itself after about 30-60 seconds. In this time though it seems to lack a bit of power and doesn't pull away cleanly - this also seems to be the case when I come off the motorway and want to pull away from stationary at the first island.

Any suggestions / ideas would be most welcome!

Could be that your MAF has failed. Or a boost leak in one of the air hoses.

For give my technical ignorance but what is a MAF?

Mass Air Flow meter. Its the sensor between the airbox and turbo

Is that a fairly common fault and the most likely possibility?

Common enough fault i suppose.
