TD4 turns over but will not run after work done

Irish no offence meant, regarding ****ing about, but you have to admit you are going round in circles here,
if you take 30 mins and try what im suggesting, you will prove you have functioning injectors, and if they are giving you a fuel vapor your engine will start.

if i lived around the corner i would be more than happy to give you a hand, i realize you have been at odds with this problem for some time now and it gets frustrating, , i have been there, have had just about all the usual problems with the td4, but at the end of the day its a diesel, all you need is compression and fuel vaporizing at the correct timing and that's it ,

good luck

another point you over look, you say you have tested the cam shaft sensor,i assume on the bench, but what you havent proved is that it is sending the correct signal to the ecu,
sometimes simple methods work out to be quicker and less expensive

The sensor has been checked on the bench and on the car. It's giving a square wave signal when the camshaft lobe passes over it.
I can't check the injectors because they are in Birmingham-they have the rig to test them on and they will be/or have checked for leaks and the correct spray pattern. As stated in my last post, I will be carrying out the check that you have described before I fit them. Reading the system description in Rave for Engine Management, the camshaft sensor should not affect the running when once the engine has started-this is why I decided to get the injectors returned to GAP, as they had overhauled them. I did not feel experienced or qualified enough to start stripping injectors down.
Without the injectors here, I can do nothing...it's just a waiting game & a frustrating one at that. I hope you will appreciate my situation regarding my reaction to your previous post.

Irish i understand your situation, injectors are not something you can overhaul yourself easily, you are correct the cam shaft sensor is only required on start up, if you carry out the test as i describe you will be certain you have functioning injectors, and that your cam sensor is giving the signal to the ecu,, you may have a poor connector on one of the sensors, but the first priority is to get the engine running , you could try easystart, also to help starting if it is very cold a hot air gun used to warm the air into the air inlet can help,
on a positive note you are learning a lot about your motor :)

If the camshaft sensor is only used at startup, how does the ecu know when to fire the injectors?.....crankshaft sensor?

Or is timing done using the "Force" on this engine....;)

camshaft sensor for initial startup to make sure valves are correctly timed, then crankshaft once its running

The injectors which were supposed to be shipped yesterday for delivery today failed to turn up :eek: Phoned them late this afternoon to be told they were shipped today....just my luck, the weather here has been nice and sunny all day !!
Whilst on the phone to them I asked if they needed any rework and the sales guy said that they had tested fine on the test rig for leak off and spray pattern etc.
Strange how people give a fantastic turnaround & service when you are spending money yet when it comes down to warranty (F.O.C.) work things go slowly ???? They had them early last Thursday morning.
Anyway, I have refitted the fuel rail and reversed the injector fuel lines ready to do the test that John t refers to. I have four empty, same sized jam jars to which I have attached graduated labels to check the level of diesel delivered by each injector. I can check the quantities more accurately by emptying them individually into a finely graduated measure that I have.
So..more news tomorrow when, hopefully, the injectors arrive.
By the way, I have bought a can of Easy Start...just in case !!!

:)

come on Irish I am desperately awaiting the out come ,as it is not making good reading at the moment .and by the way and work F.O.C. work they just do it in spare time.

While we wait for Irish, I had a look at my injectors today, and the 2nd one from the left as standing in front of the car seems to be leaking from somewhere?....Diesel is collecting in the cam cover, in the well as I call it. engine runs fine.......so far;)

Now its not coming from the leak off pipe at the top of the injector, it seems to be coming from the bottom of the injector.....It could be that the fuel pipe needs tightening up a bit, I need to check this...but where else could it be leaking from if not the leak off pipe or fuel pipe?.......

how much fluid are we looking at ?, if you cant actually see it leaking it may have been there for quite some time, maybe nothing to be concerned with

WELL:scratching_chin:any news

:behindsofa:

:mad: I'm wasting my time here Bud. Waited in all day, jam jars at the ready, sun shining and no injectors :eek: Phoned them around 15.00 and they were to ring me back in 10 mins. No return call so I got onto them and was told that UPS could not deliver as there was no one here to sign for it.....Lyin Bastids !!!:violent: If that was the case, there would have been a card on the mat.
UPS are going to attempt delivery tomorrow, I'll believe it when I see it. Methinks it's time for a few smokes :smokin::smokin: and take the top off the brandy bottle :violin::ballchain::deadhorse::beer2::beer2:

Try the tightness of the nut with a 17mm spanner then dry around the nut with a piece of paper towel. Also check the two injector clamp nuts are nipped up-don't go mad, they should be 10Nm.
Are you 100% it's diesel and not engine oil ? It could be that the gasket on the PCV valve is leaking
:)

It seems like a steady flow, as when I dry it up its there again after running the engine, you can see it slowly building up, its been there for a while, I just thought it was water from when I jet washed the engine bay...a year ago:D:confused: and it had not evaporated.....

Looks like brown water, and on a paper towel it does look black, but smells like diesel...I think:confused:

Could be the pcv gasket like you say, will have to check? .....but the flow/seepage is instant when engine is running......but here's the weird thing, it never gets over a certain depth, around 5mm deep as a guess....

Yet another job to do:mad:

From the pics the pcv cover does look oily will have to investigate whats going on in there. (Modded bmw one fitted around 2 years ago)

iv had a snap-on solus on mine today and it said low pressure to fuel rail' iv put new pump on +one injector other 3 tested ok and the bast;d still will not start
and no fault found on diagnostic no code
HEADS BATTERED HELP

Looks like its diesel but coming from the cam cover where the injector goes into the head, is this possible, he's a pic of where its puddling up.

Starting to hate this car:mad:

Hi Guys, yet ANOTHER UPDATE.....After putting some pressure on the injector people, who had been feeding me a load of horse****e over the delivery, they arrived at lunch time today :5bparty:
Did John t's test and they were all atomising. I noticed though that when the engine first spun over, a fair bit of neat diesel shot out of no.1 injector port-I reckon that the injector had been overfuelling on that pot.
Took a fuel sample at he same time as doing the test and it was clear as a bell.
Fitted the injectors, manifold and other bits and pieces except the air filter cover and...................................................................she fired up first time as sweet as a nut. Idled smoothly as it always has done and the pick up response was also back to normal. Blew a bit of blue smoke out which smelt a bit of diesel but it cleared a bit after idling for a while. Reconnected the Synergy and swapped the MAF back to the Pierburg. Started and run fine on setting 5 in "Eco" mode.
Put the remaining covers on and tidied up wiring loom etc. then took it for a short run (Approx 3 miles). The car pulled smoothly without hiccups. When I got back, it's still putting a bit of blue smoke out when I "Blip" the throttle but I have the feeling that this is down to the exhaust system being internally soaked with fuel caused by possible overfuelling from when it was running like a bag of nails.
The Injector place have not told me what they have done or given me the test results, but obviously they have done something
Just like to say a big THANK YOU :clap2: to everyone who has contributed to the topic and apologies to John t for biting his head off !!
Although this has been a saga and a steep learning curve for me, I hope that it will be of use to other members-if they can be bothered to search !!-in the future. This is certainly what LZ is all about.
Next thing is the MOT which is due 22nd April so hopefully I will get that done next week.
Cheers Guys
:praise:
