hello

just had to change the tank pump on my td4 2001 y reg as the old one failed, now i have managed to start it but it wont rev it idles fine at about 8500 but as soon as i press the ped it stops, if i slowly apply the ped it will creep up to about 1200 revs before cutting out.

any help will be appriciated

cheers

are you sure the new pump is actually delivering fuel ? have you checked the fuel rail at the injectors ?

sounds like the pump in the tank isn't working, try taking the delivery hose off to make sure it's pumping

with the old pump in it was not starting at all with no noise from pump, new pump now lets it start and i can hear the buzz from it.

i will take the delivery pipe of and check that but how would i check it at the fuel rail??

cheers

just checked the intank pump by taking the delivery pipe of and thats working fine by supplying fuel when key turned so it cant be that, the old pump was dead so thought that would cure the issue,

it still starts and idles fine but as soon as it reaches 1200 rpm it just cuts out??????

Sounds a little like you kinked a pipe or trapped a pipe?

Its a long while since ive done one of the intank pumps. It is possible that if you trapped or kinked a pipe then the pump would be able to deliver enough fuel to idle , but not enough when you rev it.

Have you actually checked the pump is running?

Also check your fuel filter. If a pump breaks down and stops working , makes you wonder where all the crap goes doesnt it ? :)

Hi bandit 600 ,
I guess i must be bandit 1200s then? ok i did my in tank pump a few months ago again the old pump was dead even tried it on another battery just to make sure and it was dead.
so installed new pump and it ran when i turned ign on , did that without starting motor a few times just to get a much air out as i could, next checked the pump under the bonnet and that was pumping too [ i wonder if ur pump under bonnet next to fuel filter is working ?] i had problems with engine management light coming on for about 3 weeks , it must have been crap or air in system but mine was more a problem of it would rev ok but didnt like slowing down on over run then light came on ... this got less and less and thankfully is ok now .
So the only thing is i can sugget is recheck all what you have done make sure the intank pump is sending a good supply to the filter / pump set up under the bonnet , it could be that the motor will run ok at tick over by just the pressure from the in tank pump but when more fuel is needed the booster pump may not be working ? you should hear both pumps working for about 30 seconds or so when ign is turned on .
Hope you get it sorted

Alan
Hope this helps

thanks guys

i have removed the supply pipe and a good strong flow from pump so thats ok, also have buzzing from pump under bonnet so assuming thats ok, i have swapped the injector rail switch just to check with a mates one and still the same, does any one think it might be the accel control switch thingy on the pedal???

it starts up fine and runs for ages on idle, will also check for kinks as it was a sod to refit the ring so might have done something there. but any more ideas would be great as the car is stuck at my moms and i have to keep going to check things and then come back lol:deadhorse: i think lol

cheers again
