Hi has anybody got a rear windscreen for sale for a freelander TD4 ES, in the Manchester area?

Mine has just exploded, on switching on the rear screen heater, or know of anywhere I could buy one in a hurry?

Thanks in advance.

Yup! thats the way i`ve gone as nowhere is open today, but have to pay £75 excess, o well, what can you do?

how much is a rear windscreen to buy anyway? new 2nd hand roughly?

All done now minus £75, But I`ve never had one exploded like that before? anyone else had an exploding heated windscreen, the noise it made was frightening.

Really worried now about turning on the rear demister when the window is frozen up.

Some of the heating elements on the old window did not work, maybe the stress of just the outer part of the window being heated caused it to explode?

I just don`t know.

It's a known thing for them to blow. Several others have posted the same question. Happens when the element sections start to fail. The difference in temp from heated and non heated parts of the screen flexes the glass beyond what it can take.

Bad luck. I've never heard this before. My old Disco had a few elements not working and I never gave it a second thought. Just an idea, could it be due to the glass being frameless, so the glass is made differently, or less flexible than a normal framed window?

Yep! I was thinking the same thing, that poor little rear window takes some stick, its only held in at the bottom on two clips, with all the slaming of the back door and the up and down movement, and then the extra stress of frost and only outer element working. I guess I would explode too.

Its just a 1st for me, always heard stories of not putting warm water onto a frosted windscreen etc, been doing this for years on all makes of cars.

This has made me think!!!

Talking about rear windows and the winter ahead of us it might be good that all the newcomers remember that the rear whiper automatically works when the car is in reverse and the front whipers are activated. In plain words this means that one has to make sure that the rear whiper is free of snow/ice so that it can move freely before you clean the front window and, with the whipers on, you put the car in reverse to drive away. Otherwise, if the rear whiper is not free it might brake down completely.

Thanks Willo, good tip.
My mates 52 reg puts the rear wiper on in reverse even without the front wipers turned on, guess thats another thing for me to look into and try and sort for him.

Hmmmmm so thats another thing thats going to fall off my Hippo. :) both drivers side window cables have snapped front and rear, please don`t tell me my doors are going to fall off. :-(
