hello

just picked up a td4 auto on a x plate, purchased it as a non runner thinking it was a starter motor problem but just changed the starter and still wont start, its giving the impression that it is the starter spinning but not engaging

any ideas???

cheers

So are you saying the engine definitely isn't turning?

Are you sure the starter you fitted is OK. Did you try it before fitting?

Problem with ring gear?

Has the engine and gearbox been separated by someone? Maybe the drive plate bolts aren't in?

engine turned over with bolt on bottom pully, so its not seized

it then turned over on the starter but gives out a clanging on spinning over and the car jolts slightly but wont start, then sounds like the starter is spinning??? then i use the bolt again and then will turn on starter

the starter used was a good one and tested before fitting and the one removed was also tested and ok.

possible been messed with but looking around all seems to be ok

cheers

I don't know exactly how the torque converter and drive plate engage and transmit drive. I was wondering if leaving the drive bolts out could allow the torque converter to turn with the starter but not the engine.

Anyone had one out?

It sounds like the problem is in the bell housing. Look through the grommet/closing plate and check the bolts etc for clues.
