Hi all,

Just joined the site after finding it a couple of weeks a go. My parents Freelander this summer has had the TC and HDC lights. I only knew about the issues with the TC and HDC lights and so I replaced the brake light switch following the threads on here. That took care of the lights on the dashboard however as I took care of this there seemed to a be a new issue with the clutch biting and revving high without picking up speed or in some cases at all.

After being in at 2 garages they both want to replace the clutch for a cost in the region of £900. Approx 20 months a go the clutch was replaced at one of these garages for £900. That time the clutch pedal did just hit the floor, however this time it seems tight.

I'm not entirely convinced that it needs a clutch replacement or if it does how can it happen after such a short amount of time. Any advice regarding the issues above would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Definitely something to take back to the original garage. If it was a Britpart clutch, there’s a 24-month warranty.

How many miles has the clutch done?
Do your parents do a lot of towing, or are they clutch slippers? (Mate of mine’s wife uses the clutch to hold her car on a hill at traffic lights).

Its done about 10-12k miles. No towing done and as far as I know my mum isn't as she's the only driver of it but it is possible.

The original garage was recommended by AA but this time round they seemed a bit shady with what was going on and we didn't feel comfortable leaving the car there.

I will look into seeing if the clutch is from Britpart.

Thanks

Sounds like original garage charged you for a full clutch job.and may have just replaced slave cylinder....

Agreed. There's no way that a reasonable quality new clutch will last so little time, unless lots if towing and clutch use has been done.

My guess is as above. The concentric slave went and the garage just changed that, but charged for a full clutch. £900 is way to much for clutch anyway, let alone one part of it. Take it back to the garage and get them to fix it correctly for free.
