Things point to the injectors at fault....

Car had been fine for over a week after i tried some injector cleaner in her, however on a longer journey 15mins + the problem has now returned :-( where would be the best place to start looking to resolve this p1190 fuel pressure plausibility problem? how can i test the fuel rail pressure sensor? thanks

your symptoms are fuel pump 90%sure,,, the intank pump is easy to test, but the inline is possible easiest to replace it can work some of the time ,and can also stick thats why you have lack of power,
if it sticks at initial start up your engine wont start , both pumps need to run at start up to prime the hp pump, but once running there seems to be enough prime from the intank and hp pump to keep the engine running at reduced power

inline pump £110 oem from ebay

let us know how you get on

Before you go for any thing more expensive, change the fuel pressure loom, about £35 and takes half hour to fit, tends to cure multiple evils and could be the cause of the latched pressure fault.

ciderdrinker,,i just reread your initial post, is your tuning box connected to the fuel rail sensor wiring? if so give the connections a good looking at, if you have a poor connection you will get poor running and misfiring

hi john t, yes it is plugged into the fuel rail I have tried cleaning the plug hasnt made any difference, the problem seems to be only when i put my foot down and the engine is pulling hard it just goes into limp mode.

It could also be an injector problem....try disconnecting the tuning box as these will always enhance any problems with faulty or marginal injectors.
I would normally agree with fuel pump as the engine warning light is coming on .....but with the missfire and black smoke... This is the same symptoms mine had just before an injector went totally fubar and was also reading low fuel pressure.
Best way to check injectors would be with a leak back test.

Having removed the tuning box the problem seems to have gone! engine runs smoother and pulls better?? the tuning box must have been defunked! thanks everyone for the advice and tips! I just hope the problem does not come back!!!

anyone else had any bad experiences with a blue spark tuning box?

yes i had a prob with a ron box,, it was the connecting plugs, poor connections, so cut off the plugs and used chock block , problem solved

Generally the tuning boxes highlight any fault in the engine. It puts more stress on the engine. Remove the tuning box and you remove the stress. But the problem is still there, just not highlighted.
