Hi all,

had a bit of a problem with the freelander whilst on holiday and towing caravan. Loss of power on bottom and and burning rich. Was hoping it was a loose turbo hose, but it wasn't so gave RAC a call. They plugged their laptop in and diagnosed that there was an error with the MAF sensor.

Anyway got home today and managed to remove the MAF sensor using some mole grips to give it a clean (it is held in by 5 POINT TORX SECURITY SCREWS WTF!!! Mental note never buy a BMW!!!)

Anyway refitted and it is running a bit better but still a little smokey. Anyway I plugged in my cheap EBAY OBD2 thingy via laptop. It connected and shows various readings, but no Errors and interestingly no MAF Sensor data. One program showed no MAF sensor at all, the other program just showed a reading of 0.0

This was different to what the RAC man was showing, obviously his was a better OBD jobby, but it was showing a MAF sensor error, and giving live data from the sensor, though it was obviously not reading properly.

Does anyone else have any experience of this. I presume that since I have removed it for cleaning that it has now given up the ghost completely as it is showing no readings.

Either way I'll unplug it properly and have another look later, but like I said I'd be interested to know what others think.

Cheers,

Hi Vstar,
same problem here. I used the OBD11 Bluetooth and the paid version of Torque diagnostic app which gets loads of praise. I wanted to check my boost pressure which it does great but like yours it does not read my MAF and also does not read my fuel pressure. Maybe it does not work on TD4 engine ECU.

hi

ive got a 2002 td4 and bought a hawkeye as they will read fault codes correctly

ref the diagnostic socket, they were not obd2 compliant until

2001 for petrol
2004 for diesels

some of the cheaper ebay models wont read the dtc fault codes correctly

there are some other code readers but cant remember what they are im afraid

if u do a search on here there is a list of what does and doesnt work

i can only speak from personal experience with regards to the hawkeye

dont mean this to come across as rude but have u also checked

crankcase filter
air filter
hoses
have u done an egr bypass

when was it last serviced

fuel filter , pump etc

maybe go to a reputable garage that has the correct reader and guide u if the maf is faulty or not

hope that may help u a little bit

there is an extensive amount on here through the search facility
