I have a commercial td4, 120000 miles that is losing a fair bit of coolant. Topped it up 2 weeks ago to the max indicator and now its a smidge below the min. Must have only 500 miles in the 2 weeks.
I don't think its a head gasketg issue as theres no evidence of water in the oil, or white smoke.

Are there any common places for leaks on the td4? Any hoses i should check first before i start searching?

Thanks fellas.

mine is doing the same, it took it a landy specialist who said it was a weeping hose - i thought it was the rad though. 2 weeks later exactly the same problem... wont be taking it there again! anyhow i have found the source now and it is leaking from the top corner of the rad (as you are looking into the engine bay its the top right hand corner) so as it is only using the difference between min and max every 2-3 tankfuls i'm letting it develop, well until it is next due a service then it'll be new rad time me thinks.

most common area is the header tank, look for witness marks around the top. either the cap starts leaking, or the top of the header tank fractures with lots of tiny hairline cracks. when the engine is hot and the cooling system is up to pressure, they let out vapour causing coolant loss.

change header tank and cap together if this is the case.

mine is doing the same also.

Topped up the header tank to full about 3 months ago, yesterday i noticed its now just below minimum, do you think its my headgasket ?

i cant see no ovious leeks or drips where the cars parked ??:confused::confused:

again ive got the same thing happening...was gonna start a thread as i cant see where the bleed points are but will see if get any response here...(sorry op)....want to bleed it but need to find bleed points first...any ideas chaps and chapess's? :)

ohh,

well just checked the footwells etc.. no damp areas :confused:

im worried now.

no its not leaking alot, ile top it up and see how it goes.

i dont get no steam from exhaust etc.. which would be a sign of ingress into the engine ?

:(

The Wifes was doing this! loseing about 1litre of coolant a week, after taking the bottom engine cover off could see that it was leaking down the front of the block behind the alternator/air con!

Right bastid to find though, turns out it was the rubber joint where the top left hand radiator hose goes onto the block.Did'nt have a new one so I turned it round (it's in a groove) with a bit of blue sealant- sorted :)
