TD4 fuel pump

Am having starting problems and have narrowed it down to the fuel pump in the engine bay. if car wont start give it a hit and its ok for a while. given that this pump seems to be quite pricey my question is, has anyone fitted another brand of pump?, does anyone know the specs for the pump? any help would be appreciated.

its just a standard lift pump , nuffink special. . . . .its a stupid design allmost like a after thought, as youve got a pump in the fuel tank, then your suspect one in engine bay,as the one in tank is not man enough to cope by itself. . . .
