hi, we have a freelander 2004 td4 auto that has a loud waffling noise and everything vibrates, noticed a lot in steering wheel and stuff like mirrors. Only happens at standstill and in gear, like waiting at traffic lights. it stops when in park and pulling away.

any help would be much appreciated

have you checked the bottom pulley them make a noise a bit like a lawn mower and it is damped so sometimes it comes apart .hope this helps

Hi, mine did this and it was the auto box bottom stabiliser bush. A short link from gearbox to chassis seen underneath with tray off.

I replaced mine with a poly bush and it is worse !!!

Will be restoring to new rubber one on next oil change.

Good luck

Mine does exactly the same.....its been in the garage and its the bottom crank pulley. .......£100 on ebay for the top and bottom crank pulley.......bolt and belts.........thats the full replacement kit

You can just buy the bottom pulley but these are roughly £50 so its worth replacing the lot for an extra 50. ... ...the belts come in two different sizes so be sure to check what size belt you need before you order it

hi, thanks for the replies. if its the crank pulley should i hear any odd noises from the engine bay like clapping or clunking in drive at a stand still. as to the bush i will check that too.

Thanks

Mine made the vibrating noises more when I was driving than it being at a stand still

that bottom pulley is a swine to get off the bolt is torqued up really hard I did make a tool to keep it in place while I removed the bolt but you can do it by removing the starter motor and you can get a small bar or could make one and you put a bolt into the ring gear on the fly wheel and then bolt the other end to the gearbox maybe I should make some more of tool I made before.
Good luck

Hi, it only does it in D and R at a standstill. In park its fine. As soon as you pull away its smooth. Going from drive to park or nuetral stops it. its not as bad when you first start off in the morning. Sorry if i keep going over this, but the pulley job is not one i look foward to :(

Its a pain.......the noise on mine drove me mad but luckily I have a great garage near by to sort it out.......I hope you get yours sorted :)
