TD4 Fitting cruise control

hiya im just so pleased u got ur cc working

i know when i first looked into it i was told by land rover it couldnt be done and even after i fitted it took it down to there workshop and still looked at me as though i was from mars, lolol

just stuck with it and putting all the clues and i kindly got from here worked it out

glad ur also up and running and for an upgrade is cheap in comparrison to some other upgrades

just remember to buy a second hand cc ecu box so it doesnt have to be programmed

my next project is getting some gerenic software to work with my pre obd2 freelander, nearly there and is suppose to give me fault codes, live data and able to re program keys

time will tell

really happy though ur all sorted

nice to know you have it working does it knock off when you press the brake peddle i think i am going to do my td4 auto facelift as i miss it ,i should have taken the parts of my old one, but thats me
 
Yep as soon as I touch the peddle it takes it off and can just press 'Set' to re-engaged it at the current speed. Got all the bits of ebay.. Had to get the dash switch from the US though as struggled to find one in the UK, however I still got it delivered for £15!!! Bargain!!
 
hiya , i found finding the switch the hardest also, seeing that there were two different types, mine was in the instrument panel and not in the centre console,

am still trying to play with this software as ive got to install a patch etc, fingers crossed it works and if it does will write up about it,

do indeed like having the cc

hiya

thats a shame, i assumed u pulled the dashboard switch out first and see if the wiring was there as mines a 2002 but maybe they changed the looms for that year

as when i went into it if the wiring wasnt there is wasnt worth doing it

also when ive pulled out the blanking switches for the heated seats the wiring is already there and thats were i started before i bought anything for the cruise control

the cc cruise dashboard switch on mine is on the instrument panel and i think the 2001 is in the centre

great shame that the wires arnt there

yes, i thought there must be wiring harness for cruise control as mine is freelander td4 2001 .never bother to pull the switches out first as my td4 was at my dad's house 200 miles away.

i dont think u will have to much trouble re selling them, as they can be difficult to find second hand

still a shame though and just suprised its changed that much within the gap of a year

I'm here.
I'm living in Belgium and bought me last week a 2005 Freelander td4 HSE.
I have read the whole story about retrofitting cruise control.
I own also a 2005 Rover 75 CDTi. I retrofitted in this car also cruise control.
Everything was plug and play;-)))
Conecting the ecu (is the same as for the freelander) plug in the on/off switch and fitted the steeringwheel paddles.
Now i would do this with the freelander to.
There is a connection behind the blanking switch; next to the parkingsensor switch.
Today i removed both seats to look after the ecu connection und the carpet.
Nothing found.
Can some one tell where this could be?

hiya ,

under the drivers seat , in the carpet u should see a small slit, if u feel around there u should find a plug

plus please remember to but a second hand cruise ecu as it will be pre programmed and of course will only work on an auto ,

hope this helps , as it took me many months to work out how ro doit and pleased its also worked for others

always tell people to pull the blanks out first to make sure the wiring is there first and of course didn't wish to tell u how to suck eggs but just if i can help u in any way

But i didn't find nothing, nada, nichts, niks.......:eek:
As i wrothe, i removed both seats, looked under the carped, found only some wiring, but no plug or so.
Under the seat, there is a grey plug that isn't used. But as i can see it's to small to fit into the ecu.
I followed the cables into the front, so as i could go.
Behind the blinds is a connection for the on/off switch

hiya , you say youve found a grey plug, did that come out of the slit in the carpet,

i dont know why but on the facelift model some of the wiring isnt all there for some reason

seems strange as in mine being a 2002 all the looms were there but i believe in the 2001 models the wiring isnt,

if u do a search i posted some pics on here on what the plug should look like, if not let me know and will take another pic of what the plug should look like

just need the on - off switch, then the paddles on the steering wheel, on my steering wheel i bought a new one that had both paddles on it and also ensured it came with a small green cable

then it was just a case of plugging in the ecu and was all plug and play

if u get stuck let me know and will help u all i can,

mines an auto and know the ,manual is a whole new ball game and totally different

trying to think who it was that had a facelight model and tried to fit cruise control and also couldn't find all the wiring

I don't know if the plug is different in other or older models but in the facelift 5 door diesel the plug under the drivers seat is not the one in the above link. but this one

hiya buddy

it should look like the plug below, strange its not there as on most of the facelift models its tucked under the carpet

have u put ur fingers right under the carpet to see if u can feel any wires as it could be pushed back

if u take off the drivers side door trim u should see a bunch of wires going towards the drivers seat

the rover and land rover one is the same , cant remember the part number off the top of my head but is there on the search bit

plus the ecu mounting bracket is still avaiable and costs a couple of quid from britcar

Thanks for the picture, but i know haw the switch lookes like.
I did the same at my MG ZT, the ecu and the switch are the same.

On the Freelander i removed both front seats so i could take a good lokk under the carped. I found nothing.
Strange is that the conection for the on/off switch is fitted:(:(
 
hiya

funny enough ive started to take out all my interior and quickly took a pic for u of the wiring that goes to the cruise control ecu

like u say strange the wires for the switches are there and not the wires underneath the seat

hope the pic may give u some idea of the wires req

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here for a while since I sold my disco. However I've now picked up an old (54) Freelander TD4 Auto Sport and would like to retro fit cruise control. I've read through this post, I have the plug under the drivers seat, so hopefully a loom, what I haven't found yet is the plug for the cruise master switch.

According to the Rave diagrams it should be a blue 5 pin plug, with 2 wires and be behind the little facia panel on the drivers side, but I've had a good look with a torch and mirror up under the dash on the drivers side and can't see a plug. Before I start stripping out the dash and carpets, does anyone have any ideas where this plug maybe hidden? By the way, I've the cruise steering wheel controls and a second hand ECU on the way, just the master switch to get. Many thanks in advance Chris.
