Not sure exactly on the ird pipe, but I'm sure I don't have the usual hooked breather on the bulkhead.

Then again, I was sure I had the turbo vent filter but when I looked to replace it the other day I couldn't find it... Traced the hose from the solenoid and sure enough there was no filter.

Mines a manual, but it would help seeing where the others go at least.

Ironically in my old job I could have had as many of those fittings as I wanted, it's a help to see what the kit is made up from now I reognise some of it.

Hi Gary, this is 3 years after you originally posted this - but did you take any pictures of the installation/ take dimensions of the pipe work? I am thinking that I'll need to extend the breathers on mine if I keep dunking my Hippo in the mud (following picture from @neilly - thanks!)

And this is the engine bay as a result!

PS , how high did u manage to put the water depth mark on @rob_bell hippo without him noticing , lol

If you get it in water deep enough for the IRD vent to get submerged. A bit of water in the IRD will be the least of your problems. ;)

indeed , floating , ;) as if i remember i had the raised loop at the back of the bulkhead lol

i bought the kit off a member from here, but for the life of me i can’t remember who it was

The first decent puddle was a biggie: down a dip, the wave of water went over the bonnet and windscreen! Lol

I am thinking it would be sensible to extend the breathers “just in case” - the official wading depth is 40cm, and I doubt I’ll be planning to go any deeper ;)

You need to be careful not the drown the engine's air intake. That's only 50cm or so above the ground. You could do with a raised air intake, if you plan to do extreme wading. ;)

Not sure I want to put a snorkel on this one, but a raised intake might be sensible: inside the near side wing maybe?

I’m not planning any serious “off-roading” any time soon, but if I did, I’d quite like to buy a diesel Freelander, possibly the likeable L-series version. 40mm lift and taller tyres.

Or... buy a disco 1 or 2...

The advantage of the Freelander is its overall affordability, it’s relative light weight, the clever transmission. The downside seems that it needs some modifications for the tougher stuff and there is no fix for a lack of a low range (I haven’t found that limiting yet).

No rush: I’ve got plenty of time to think it through and in the mean time enjoy my Hippo! :D

Anything you can find Gary: that’d be perfect :D
