:( hi back again. please check out my other threads if you have note already. i am in serious need of help. i now have replaced 3 injectors in pot 1. the engine runs fine for a bit untill i am stationary then seems to run really lumpy. last night i cleaned out the ERG it was really bad, thick blck sludge. it ran great for about 20 min then back to lumpy. so today i cleaned out the full inlet manifold and the ERG again, put on another fuel filter filled with injector cleaner. set her away again and...........................not a sausage still running like a bag of s**t. any ideas please this is getting costly now. cheers all
 
Davey. You may have an injector fault. When the engine is running lumpy disconnect each injector in turn until you find one that makes no difference to the idle speed. That injector is therefore faulty and requires servicing/ replacement.
 
hi dan i tried that in the other two posts i , made. the engine just seems to run lumpy when it wants. could be on start up or 20mins into driving, but when i do disconnect the wireing it is a fault on injector 1 but it's got to be caused else were as i have now had 3 injectors in no. 1.
 
I have exactly the same issue today.....got the AA checking it now. Did you manage to find a resolve? The engineer is stripping the ERG of gunk as I type. How much am I looking at for a new injector?
 
Thanks John....shall try that shortly. Been told it may also be the MAS sensor or the "usual" pump issue?? Still the AA were pretty useless....they stripped the ERG (which was pretty much gunked to high heaven), tapped the pump with a hammer and whilst scratching his head said "not sure what it is sir". Lol.

The only thing with the injector hypothesis is that the ECU is not returning any engine fault codes (which you would suspect with an electrical fault - maybe - understand it if its a mechanical issue).

Will keep you update.
 
Well Guys, After A Few Weeks At 4muddyfeet The Td4 Seems To Be Working. Should Be Picking The Beast Up Tomorrow As Long As The Early Morning Road Test Goes To Plan. The Guys There Have Been Great And Would Recomend Them If Your Living In The Northeast Area Unlike Another Land Rover Specialist Which I Would Not Recomend In The Area. They Say The Problem Was 2 And 4 Injectors, They Were Nearly Dead And With Me Trying To Fix The Problem Myself Caused More Agro By Clearing The Injector Codes Off Ecu Which Resulted In Engine Running Lumpy, Loss Of Power And Plenty Of Smoke. They Fitted 2 New Injectors A Fuel Return Line And Reprogrammed The Injector Codes To The Ecu. Cant Wait To Get My Baby Back I Was Going To Sell Her But I Think I Might Keep Her For A While Longer. If The Road Test Doesnt Go To Plan I Retract Everything I Just Said, Lol Just Kidding

You are correct only TD5's need coding, TD4's are plug and play impossible to code.
One other point guys, by disconnecting these injectors whilst the vehicle is runnng you can cause a lot of problems ie. damage the injectors or possible the ECM. The injectors contain piezo electric crystals which are energized by the ECM to open and close them at a much faster rate than mechanical ones. This allows the ECM to control the pre and main injection duration periods. On an oscilloscope voltages can be seen in excess of 100 volts, if you unplug the injector while engine is running this voltage has no where to go except back to the ECM.
Just a point I thought you should know, if anyone would like a picture of these let me know.

You might want to research this statement a bit more,damage to ecu is possible,but TD4 injectors ? Maybe if we were talking TDV6/8.
 
And you may want to view last post with a capture from a TD5, have a look at the voltages there! I came here a few weeks ago to offer some proffesional advice, so therefore I will not be researching anything, if you know better fine, why don't you research it and come up with something to proove me wrong. Untill then I will view and not post and you can say whatever you want, ever heard the expression "water off a ducks back" ?? At least I don't hide behind a nickname, what you see is who I am.
 
Note the time I am posting,I willl ad that I am completely Pi--ed, and refuse to do any research,but I dont need to in respect to injectors fitted to TD4/5 or 6 engines.If you are going to get technical,(Which most people on this forum wont thank you for) at least know your stuff.I dont hide behind anything,nor do I need to state that I am LR trained.
