#### this poxy car.
Took it for a fast run down to Valencia in Spain and back yesterday to collect something....ran faultlessly, even pulling a heavy trailer on the way back.

It failed to start this morning, but eventually went after a couple of tries. This has now happened a few times today - it takes 4 or 5 attempts to start, and I soon realised that I can not hear the electric fuel pump in the engine bay running each time it fails to start. If I flick the ignition on and off several times, the pump will fire up and the car starts no problem.
So....new fuel pump needed - thats obvious. However, I hear that when one goes, the second is normally not long behind....The in-tank lift pump (by the way, am i right in assuming these are disgustingly dear - had a quick look on famousfour and they are around £300???) might need changed soon too? Search turned up a thread about some dude stripping and cleaning it - anyone else done this and is it worthwhile to save replacement?
Its a commercial though - how the fork am I supposed to get at it? I guess the floor needs to come up? I hope it still has the access panel that normal models have under the back seat. thing is, the floor wont come up until the bulkhead mesh is removed first, which is a bitch plus its all much easier if the roof comes off too.....farce.

What worries me though is that tonight I had to make a short journey and the battery warning light is on dimly on the dashboard when the engine is running. Putting electrical loads on or off makes no difference to its intensity. Alternator was new last year and the battery was new early this year, so doubtful its one of those......but its a bit of a coincidence that this has happened at the same time as the fuel pump problems, yet I fail to see how they could be linked?

I am on the verge of binning the Freelander and keeping the Mazda, but the bloody Mazda disgraced itself a few days back and now wont run properly....drawing air into the fuel system somewhere. I am fed up of stinking of diesel. :violin:

Fixed it! :D

No, I fixed the Mazda - the fuel pipe sticking out the top of the sender had rusted and gone porous, allowing air to be drawn into the fuel line. I found a bit of pipe the right diameter on an old Daihatsu lying round the back of one of the farm buildings, so chopped off a bit and braised it in place on the Mazda. Fixed.

The Landy - probably wont be that simple. Stuff to do tomorrow, so probably wont get a look at it till the weekend.
