Hi guys (again) small problem, if you've been following all the threads on this site you may have seen that I was fitting a Webasto Heater, well this I have completed.

Here is my next problem, I 99% sure that this was a problem before I fitted the heater, having had all the hoses off, I have refilled as I would have thought it would have been done, as far as I know (50% sure) I don't have an air lock. On a 30 minuet run the bottom radiator hose is cold, heater works fine as does the pre heater. Top hose is very hot, Temp gauge is reading 50 - 55%, fans are kicking in slowly. Tappets are getting noisy as though the oil is thinning.

I have come to a conclusion that the Thermostat is stuck, not having a reference to check against.
Where is it on a TD4? should I run it without to test?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Take it out and run the engine with it out, or pour a boiled kettle full of water over it and see if it opens, from what your saying chances are it won't open.

I'm off to see where it is, it took me 1/2 an hour to find the oil filter, this is form someone who shoveled a V8 rover engine into a Capri!!

Brilliant and how are you supposed to get at that! NO no the engine did fit in although I ended up burning the car and the garage it was in down, by a spark off the welding torch, it just pinged on to the floor in slow motion and up it went, damned those petrol fumes

I had a fiat 126 as well at the time, when I was refurbin the V8 I took the passenger seat out of the 126 and sat it in there, wasn't to heavy as it was alloy block

So back to the problem, is it not impossible to take it of right?

land rover say 8 hours to change thermostat, they say take engine out, you can do it in situ but its a horrible job.

If you haven't found it yet, its on the water pump at the back of the engine on the offside.

This info is from someone who stuffed a rover V8 in a mk5 cortina!!!

Just found this:
Temp guage never moves past 1/2 mark. Land Rover has a TSB to improve its performance, but acknowledges that it is really more of an "idiot light" that won't move above 1/2 unless the vehicle is overheating. I suspect it doesn't actually work since my Freelander overheated with no change in temperature gauge position.

Yep I found it alright it looks a nightmare to get at, as I was looking in the dark a few moments ago, where does the hose go thats connected to it. If it is opening shouldn't this get warm?

its goes to a metal pipe that runs around the back of the engine and under the pullies and along the bottom front of the engine, then to a rubber pipe and to the radiator on the nearside of the car.

take the undertray off and you'll see it going along the front of the engine.

Thanks for that, humm, just did all that at the weekend when I was fitting the webasto hoses, and I put the A bar back on and I've got fog lights!
