TD4 clutch slipping

Hi,

I have a 56-plate Freelander TD4 that's done 70-something thousand miles. Recently I've noticed that sometimes if I put my foot down sharply, the revs shoot right up for a second without the car changing speed, then the revs drop down a bit and the car speeds up to meet them. I assume this is the clutch slipping.

Is there something that can be adjusted, or is it a new clutch job?

If it needs a new one, can anyone hazard a guess at a garage price for the job? I'm not a complete mechanical numpty and I have basic hand tools and a trolley jack, but realistically I'm not going to be dropping the clutch on the road outside my house on a car that needs to get me to work in the morning.

If anyone happens to be local to Southampton and can recommend a place I'd be interested; someone at work said Brooklyn 4x4 so that's probably where it'll be going otherwise.

If its a manual box then it sounds like the clutch slipping

it should be more noticeable in the higher gears ( 5, 4 ,3)

The clutch change is a bit of a job - not complicated - just heavy work.............

That fits, yes.

I was a bit worried that it might suddenly let me down when pulling out at a junction etc; as long as it only happens in higher gears it's annoying but not dangerous. But obviously it needs to be fixed.

Since posting I found a thread somewhere else saying that the landrover book time is 8 hours. I don't know what's a normal garage rate (not needed any work since I've had it, I do normal servicing) but that sounds expensive

Still not going to attempt it myself though. Be different perhaps if I had a garage, or even a ramp like my mate's dad, but at my house I'd be lying in the gutter in the rain. And if I get stuck halfway I can't even drive into town to buy parts
