Hi

Now we are back on the road again i have been thinking about the fuel consumption of the car.I believe there are a couple of things i can do but not sure what.I am not a mechanic but have grown up in a agriculture / motorcycle family and not shy to wield the tools.Any help would be great.

Alan.

High thirties is the norm I'd say, what are you getting now?

Keep it properly serviced, tyres at correct pressure, no excess weight and calm driving style, accelerate gently and brake as little as possible.

Egr removal and Synergy 2 improve the drive and some claim slight mpg improvement. I haven't found this but ours was/is well serviced anyway so doubt there is any gain.

high thirties ? lucky sod ! Looking at high twenties around town and low thirties on a run. However, this may now change thanks to the kind information provided by your good self re:map sensor plug. lets wait and see ! I know the performance is much better now I've replugged that and cleaned/blanked egr.

ok, I suppose I was talking best figure achievable, around town driving will be considerably less especially for those who like to rush about! :)

Hi

Ta guys, was on here a while ago and there was some info regarding this issue.Just wondering if things had changed and what the current thinking was.

Alan.

For economy only, do the egr bypass - it's worth 1-2mpg & start using Millers powersport 4 diesel additive regularly at double the stated dose. That gave me an extra 3mpg & also keeps the injectors & fuel system clean. Both of these will also give a reasonable power increase. When I fitted my Synergy box I lost 1mpg but did start to use the extra power that it gave so can't complain. During winter my economy is high twenties for the run to work which includes a mixture of motorway & town. By summer time it's usually about 32-34mpg for the same route but it's less congested & 40mpg on a run seems to be normal. This is for an 03 Auto with the mods done & regularly serviced, tyre pressures checked regularly etc. If you don't buy the complete Synergy 2 box then still get the Mafam compensator to bring your MAF back into spec. Also make sure you've changed your dreaded crankcase breather valve/filter assy. recently as that can sap performance/economy when it clogs.

40mpg in my 05/TD4/HSE - I only ever use Vpower diesel (works out the same price as buying cheaper fuel and separate additives - I prefer mine perfectly pre-mixed!) and of course, the main thing, remember to dip your right sock in helium before you set out.

I get more in the summer and winter. Over the winter approx 26mpg local - now 30mpg.

I recently did a 300mile run to motorway run Sheffield-London and back - 5 big lads on board and I got over 35Mpg.

Recent service and auto oil change has made a big difference.

Yeah, I found things better after the auto fluid change & fully synthetic engine oil for the motor.

Hi! I`m new owner of freelander 2.0 td4, 2001. as well as new user of this site :) Have a problem with high fuel consumption of 11 to 14l per 100km! When this problem appired I was looking for an answer and read on a site that I can turn off the fuel flow meter, which will reduce consumption. Is it true? If anyone knows, please HELP!!! P.S. Sorry for my not so well English, but I hope we`ll understand! :)

Hi chaser
what tyre pressure do you recomend for better fuel consumption.

My 2002 auto (156K miles) was 36.4mpg on the last tank, which i was happy with, then i filled up with Esso and added a bottle of Comma Diesel Magic as this gives a (to me anyway) noticable increase in driveability just filled up tonight and worked it out at 32.6mpg, lets see how tonights Shell fuel save does on this tank then!

Thats still really low mpg , worst I'v had is 26mpg that's winter in heavy traffic , diesel heater on lights heating etc , Crankcase filter & EGR clean / pipe & peg mod helped .
Now get low 30mpg on a similar journey to you ?
