Afternoon all just a couple of things today. Is there a easy way to clean oil off my td4 alternator? I've only just noticed it is baked in oil from I assume a very messy filter change or a former pcv filter blockage. Not on my part I may add. Just don't fancy using preasure washer.
Secondly I have an idea for a possible mod on oil drain plug.
After servicing a combine harvester yesterday it got me thinking about the idea of fitting a hydraulic pipe to where sump plug is located and blanking off the other end. The plan is to have the pipe reaching to the back of the under tray so easily accessible without needing to remove anything. It would be fixed to the under tray with hydraulic pipe clamps to stop movement. What's peoples thoughts on this good or bad idea? Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

The alternator is best removed for cleaning carefully with a degreaser. My TD4 has a hole cut in the sump guard giving access to the drain plug. Because of this, the bolts securing the guard in place are rusted solid :(
