As mentioned above.

Runs fine below 55mph, but will feel like I've got a parachute behind me when trying to go quicker - just like a speed limiter kicking in. A nightmare if going up hill, or towing, but will then be fine at other times!

I had it checked over by a independent gargae who found no fault with the Turbo, no fault codes when checked, but a split in a vac hose, so changed it. Result = no difference.
Got a mate who brought his diagnostic kit around, and he did find a fault code - P1518 Intake Manifold Air Control system - so asked a LR mech' who recomended changing the MAF sensor. Result = no difference.

Had a fuel lift pump replaced a while ago, but don't believe that would make any difference?

Didn't realise you needed a sense of humour to own a Freelander, but I do now!

Any ideas before I have to take in to a main stealer?

Thoriughly check your Turbo hoses -

There are 3 "fat" ones, they can split or delaminate and collapse in use

Ok do a search for erg valve and that will show you what to do.
We have dealt with 2 td4s with the same problem, however it was two different problems, the first was the map sensor (which landrover call a multipoint injection pressure sensor) it the sensor that is fastened into inlet manifold and more likely to be the problem. The other was a real pig to find, this was a problem with plug from the high pressure rail sensor, we in the end cut the old plug off attached a new plug and bingo problem gone. The other thought It could be a faulty turbo boost solenoid but normally they are reliable and would expect to see a managment light. Hope that this may be of use.

hi

after readign your post on this thread i have a question as mine has started to behave

sometimes its hard to start, then once it running and at idle it will choke and stall then cut out, as its choking the engine managemnet light does come on. but is gone again when the ignition has been turned off and on again.

i have checked the maf in the inlet trunking and its covered in oil

i have been advised to replace engine breather to stop the oil fom the turbo getting in the inlet side of thing.

just wonderd if you think that my oil coverd maf would give the simtoms i have and that they are simluar to this thread,

sorry for hijacking thread and i hope you can help

thanks in advance

Adie
