tax band

hey guys, thanks again for previous advice, I am now definately going to go for a TD4 auto. does anyone know the actual tax band for the 51, 02, 52, 03 plate as would prefer x or Y reg but may be easier to get one of the other plates.
am I right in thinking that the auto is tax band k meaning that this year it was £215, next year it will be £245 and 2011 it will be a crazy £550?? according to gov website?

if that is the case then definately a X or Y reg for me

The £550 you say is only applicable to NEW cars registered that year. After that, they pay the standard rate.

Strange as most place you buy a new car from come with 1 year RFL included. Wonder if dealers will pass that onto the buyer.

Likewise mine is £215 for this year. Forget the "Y" plate though, only up to & including "X" plate falls into the older engine size tax band. Anything "Y" inclusive onwards falls into this emmissions crap, but is curently still worth considering if it's in good nick & you think along the lines of owning it for three years & seeing how things go when the new government comes in & introduces their plans.

Be carefull - my old Freelander TD4 auto was a 06 plate and £400+ road fund license per year. Had it checked twice still had to pay as much as a Sport. but then again I didn't buy it because it was cheap to run.

Just taxed mine on Saturday. Deffo £215, unless the dude at the Post Office got it wrong

cept for the commercial variant which is a flat £185 whichever engine/gearbox it's got.

From "Rates of vehicle tax" V149 on direct.gov

"Band K includes cars that have a CO2 emission figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006."
TD4 auto produces 240g/km
If registered after 23 March 2006 the vehicle falls into band L and pay £405.

I run my 1999 Freelander XDI on Bio Diesel and even though it is almost zero emissions I still have to pay £190.....................

cheers guys, didnt know about the Y reg thing though, guess it would make sense though as X reg is up to march 2001 then it changes to Y and thats when the tax changes. £245 is ok though

When I first started looking at Freelanders I did gulp a bit at the tax costs. But then I was paying £160 a year on a Fiat Cinquecento. So paying £215 for a car 3 times the size I wasnt too fussed.

I may life to regret that in a few years mind you!

I got caught out myself when I bought my car & even though I'd checked the DVLA VED rates before I bought, it was 6 days later that I found out about the proposed £430 that our cash strapped government were trying to force through. Thanks to some widespread publicity & a well signed petition they were forced to rethink & now we're facing £245 instead. The future isn't certain but I've had my car 18 months now & will be happy if it hasn't changed in another 18 months. Anything after that is a bonus. If the new Tory government decide to ramp it up, I'll then get rid & buy something older & probably more polluting.
