I just needed to show somebody as SWMBO has no interest whatsoever.
Changed the 2.5na for a Disco 300tdi, new power steering, removed some bits and put new seats, mats etc in. The changes have made it much easier to drive for an old git like me.

Yeah, same here!

Looks really good. Did you find fitting the 300 TDI difficult?

Don't the gun mounts get in the way a bit? I was afraid of bumping my head against them offroad or in an accident, so I pulled them.

Unfortunately neither the skills nor equipment to do an engine swap; my local 4x4 man did it. As I understand it the 300 lies further back which entailed some modifications to both the mounts and other add-ons. He renewed the radiator, exhaust, put new electric fan in and changed the transfer box.

Had no problems either before or since with the rifle mounts so left them in.

I think some photo's of the engine bay are in order. Just noticed you have ordinary seats in. Mine were the series swab style ones, where you don't have a headrest, so it's much easier to come into contact with the gun mounts. I also have proper seats now, so it's probably not an issue.

As requested

My missus is so uninterested it's unreal, she kinda makes me feel like it is a sleazy hobby!!

That's a nice car, looks in good order :)

I would like to fit 200/300tdi but cashflow is less than good ATM :(

The matting is good, got it in mine. It's from Exmoor Trim but the army fitted it as standard. Supposed to reduce noise by quite a bit and it does I suppose but it is ridiculously over priced

That is super smart. Looks tremendous and in great condition all round by the look of it. I think I'll look at different floor options myself - inspired :)

Where did the 4x4 guy mount your fuel filter? I'm not sure where they are in 2.5NA

You can see it on the bulkhead in the second engine picture. That's the same location as the 2.5NA. In fact, you can use the 2.5NA fuel filter assembly (I did). It's just a bit more complicated than the 200 TDI one, so it's better to use the 200 one if you have it.

It wasn't fitted as standard but the Army did have some defenders (not wolf versions) refurbished and amongst the new bits was the exmoor trip matting system. The refurb project was called Tithonus.
