Replaced tailgate button but still got intermittent fault and wont do anything at all.
Is there a link to the nearside tail light which has also stopped working?
Is there another way of opening the tailgate anyone know?
It is a right pain
Ta for you help

If it's a P38, the tail gate release motor/button gets it's power from a micro switch in the drivers door lock, so if the button is OK, the odds are that the problem is there. If only the nearside rear light has stopped working it could be a bad earth.

Thank you for reply.
Drivers door lock was replaced recently so should be ok. Yes is a P38 2000 4,6 sorry
could bad earth affect both light and tailgate?

No it gets it's power from fuse 15 20 amp. It is grounded by CDL switch in drivers door lock via outstation to ground point E0807 and the push button on the tail gate completes the circuit to activate the latch. The the tail lamp ground to body E0565 and the R/H front door outstation ground to body E0807 share the same ground point. R/H side of boot space at C post just below seat belt anchor. He could look at that.

to revisit, all lights work fine, tailgate button still not working.
Managed to get carpet bit off tailgate and open tailgate and mechanically the tailgate locks move easily.
Switch has continuity
All locks work fine
Anyone know where else I can look?

Thanks for reply
Getting continuity through the switch.
Have found a post from earlier saying to check the connector from the drivers door so going to check that tomorrow
