Twice this week I have got into my car and found the rear tailgate window open. It was shut when I parked the car. As it is parked in the road this is big problem. Any suggestions??

It is a R reg 5door

ive got the same problem  its the window regulator mate i just unplugged the motor but make sure you do this while the rear door is closed because when you open the rear door it drop a little bit so the glass doesnt catch on the door trim.
Also dont try and open the door once youve unplugged it for the same reason!
Jusr a temp fix untill you get a new regulator

The tailgate drops when the battery is reconnected. Do you have a loose connection on the battery?

Fault has now stopped (5 days and counting) the only thing that has changed is that workmen cleaning the sewers have left the area. They were all using walky talkies and I wonder if there was a faulty unit transmitting the unlock signal for my car. Strange but maybe true, only time will tell.

Hi I was wondering the same thing but then was told if you keep your finger pressed on the remote to unlock the car, then the tailgate window opens... I tried and mystery solved.

just tried that on my 3 door and it does go down when you keep your finger on the unlock button but doesnt seem to close when you hit the lock button. why let you open it then have to get in the car and put the key in the ignition to close it again. i suppose to allow you to put stuff in the boot but would be handy to be able to close it again without having to get in the car.

Stick the key in the tailgate lock and turn it clockwise - that should shut the rear glass from outside, then press the lock button to lock it - SIMPLES :)

bluebird4 had both these faults hold the down window down key in lock clockise raises window,or rest computor fault codes

My Freelander decided to do the same..... dropped the tailgate window.Trouble was the window regulator broke with window completely down - didn't help that it was dark and pouring with rain. I found black bin bags and duck tape are a good alternative.
