Hi all, today I removed the unused brand new spare wheel from the tailgate on my TD4 2006 and discovered more than I bargained for, the tyre was no good through severe cracking on the side wall probably perished through never been used it was also a different make to the other 4.
As someone pointed out to me in one of my last posts the tailgate had received damage presumably through someone reversing into something as the door skin was crumpled and heavily filled poorly I might add. There was also a hole below the handle through corrosion just above the number plate below the number plate lamp holder.
I had removed the door card and lubricated the rear window cables and centralised the glass as it was tight against the nearside plastic trim, so I did this to prevent a smashed window.
There was a grommet that was split around the loom allowing water in behind the spare wheel carrying frame so sorted that too.
I was in two minds whether to spend money in putting this door right or to buy a complete door from e bay or elsewhere ( on here when I get 50 posts ). I have decided to buy a solid ready painted SILVER one as opposed to trying to recover mine so when the funds allow thats the plan the one thing I love about this vehicle is everything is cheap or affordable as opposed to the FL2 2011 I had where I couldn't even afford a tyre lol.
I now have all my service kit filters EGR bypass etc etc so when it gets better weather I will get stuck in.
One thing I found out this week was the Air con system is empty of refrigerant so I'm hoping it was just neglected and lost through seals so I'll have to have it tested at kwik fit as recommended on here this is probably my cheapest option.
Well thats all for now will keep You updated, AL.
