Tailgate niggle

Got a niggle with the tailgate on a 2001 estate taking several attempts to close on occasion, other times it shuts fine.

I can't find any obvious obstruction, the door is not sagging and the rear window is working fine. Problem can occur both when the window is up or in the down position.

As I understand it this door latches electrically, is it likely to be a matter of adjustment or an electrical prob?

Yep, but the posts I've managed to find concern tailgate window faults, (which in this case works fine), causing locking errors or the tailgate won't open!!

My prob is the thing doesn't always want to shut.

Mine does the same. Prob the latch doesn't open.

I just press the handle again until I hear it unlock and then close again.

tis the little motor sticking, this can be dismantled and lubricated, test it by squeezing the handle with the door open, when you hear it whirr the door will shut first time, and there is a post on this subject.
