Tailgate latch intermittent

Seeing similar threads I thought this would be a microswitch. It isn't.

The door opens fine but the latch doesn't reset, so it sometimes bounces rather than latching when closed.

I replaced the handle mechanism including springs and microswitch(es) and the problem is the same.

Looking further, it's obvious that the actuator which operates the latch isn't always returning.

Video here. You can see the latch actuator (unmounted for visibility) drops when the handle is squeezed, but eventually it fails to reset.

Has anyone replaced one of these, and did it cure the problem?

yes it is the actuator, yes a new one cured the problem, althogh i was always tempted to put new lube in the old and refit because it worked out of the car,

Took me a while to figure out what you meant there

Thanks for the info. There's one on Ebay which I might try.
Although just for giggles I think I'll see if the old one is fixable first
