Evening all,

Noticed today that my tailgate has a dose of tinworm around the handle.

Have found a complete one at a breakers local to me which is off a 2002, mine is a 2004.

Will it be a straight swap?

Thank you in advance.

They are physically the same. The 2004 could be from a face lift Freelander. I think the lower trim holes are in different places but I could be wrong on that.

Ive seen some listed on fleabay that state they will fit right through the model years of fl1. The reason im looking is I had exactly the same problem as you, mine is currently sporting a liquid metal repair. Couldnt believe how bad it was when I took handle off to repair the "small" hole just under the reg plate light.

Thank you for the replies.

The one I'm going to look at is totally complete, so potentially, it could be straight forward to swap them over…

…as long as the donor one is rust free…!

Hello all,
To continue this I am now looking into the possibility of another complete tailgate…
As ideally I want the change to be as easy as possible, does the tailgate wiring loom unplug anywhere that would make life easy?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, the connectors are located behind the r.h. side trim in the loadspace area.

laner and ian jones are both right. the physical door is the same, it's just the trim that's a different shape (rounded on earlier, square on later)

easy to change over with new trim clips, would go for it unless your trim is u/s too.
