My tachometer stopped working a week ago, and I'm not sure what the problem is. For a while, the needle kept jumping around between the 1000 and 2000 RPM marks, and when I stepped on the gas, it went to 0. Now it won't even move. My mechanic won't touch it because he doesn't want to mess with British electronics, so I'd like to find a way to diagnose the problem and if need be, install a new tachometer. I also noticed that it started doing this after the hose line going from the intake manifold to an area right by the radiator broke, could the problem be related to that? And what's the name of that hose line anyways?

Not a reply but my 300 TDi was only working to about 1500 RPM since June. Yesterday (first time in heavy rain ?) the rev counter started working all the way.

Sounds like a dry solder problem but if anyone's got any suggestions to keep it working then let me know.

I had looked at a fix that invloved trying clokcs and sensors, but baulked at 1) finding a set of clocks from a scrappy. (£40)
2) Was told not to try and change odometer to my mileage as it would look tampered from then on (alignment etc.)

Tana.
