I am trying to fit the above to my 1995 Defender 110 but having wired it up as per the following:

http://www.carid.com/images/miscellaneous/wst-75-0926-dual-battery-system.pdf

and the photo here

Dual-battery systems | Drive Out

when tried to start the car there was 'nothing' i.e. it was if it had been immobilized - I then pressed the 'link' button on the controller and was able to start the car etc. When I switched off after a while I heard a clunk from the solenoid. When I then went to re-start the car I had exactly the same i.e. nothing until I 'linked' the batteries again - surely this is not right?

In terms of wiring it is as per the TMax wiring diagram except I took the lead into the solenoid direct from the '+' of the main battery (insted of part way into cable to alternator as shown on wiring diagram) and I linked the '-' from the aux battery direct to the '-' of the main battery (instead of to an earth) - both as per the photo on the link above.

After the above experience I had another look at the photo on the attached link which seems to show the 'jump wire' not connected so tried it like this - all was well i.e. the car started etc however there were no clicks form the solenoid so I am not sure if the system is working at all?

Can any body help...

Many thanks

Nick

The clunk after shutting off is the solenoid breaking connection. The jump wire needs to be connected. Did you have the solenoid the right when up when numbering the terminals? Mine weren't numbered which I thought was a bit daft

In terms of wiring it correctly I have checked and double checked unless I have got the solenoid the wrong way up? - I didn't look to see if the terminals were numbered (I have now checked and they are not) I just looked at the picture in the instructions and went from there....

Would it do any harm if I changed the four solenoid connections over and started the car etc to check?

Also, is somebody able to tell me what I should be looking for i.e. when I turn on the ignition should the green light come on or does this come on once the engine has been runnning for a while - also when you turn the engine/ignition off is the green light meant to go off straight away?

Many thanks

Green light will come on after the engine has been running for a few seconds.

Mine usually goes out after I've got out the car and locked it, takes it a short while to realise the engine is off.

Don't see a reason why moving the connections round would be an issue.

I was reading your post and was thinking i bet hes got the solenoid the wrong way up!

Definitely sounds like thats the case fella. because its doing everything its supposed to do but on the wrong battery.

Friend of mine had the same results as you but we later found out he had his aux and main battery confused

Good luck.

Thanks for all your help/ comments. After a bit of trial and error it seems the main terminals on the solenoid were back to front (compared to what the instructions indicated).

Boys,

I need some help!! (a lot of people tel me that)

I got the T max twin battery split charger, worked a treat.

However, I decided that rather than drill a bloody great hole in my dash, for the plug, I would de-solder the terminals PCB end and just put those through the dash. Worked well until I came to re-solder the terminals and forgot where I put the colour code. Mine is the display unit with the LED's to indicate charge levels.

Would one of my new mates on here be willing to quickly unscrew theirs and tell me the cable order where it meets the PCB??

I would be greatful as neither Bearmach (Arses) or M and M helpful but won't take a new one apart can't help.

Big Jig
