Swivel pin housing ep80/90 or one shot grease?

Hi guys

Cant seem to find a definitive answer

Ive got a 1996 300tdi, on the swivel pin housing it has a the drain plug as opposed to later models that just have a filler.

Should I be using EP 80/90? or one shot grease?

Far as I know, either. I like oil, but if it is leaking use the one shot stuff.

yes either, one shot was introduced in the later 1990s to cut out a service requirement of swivel oil changes, thus cheapening cost of service

One shot is excellent stuff.
I even run it in my series 2.

Do they not need 'splash' onto the upper pin for lube ?
As they don't have CV joints as such, but Tracta Joints up to '53 ? I fink ...

tracta joint is a type of cv, and would fair well with oneshot,one shot still lubes top pin

I know that, but before railko was thought of, a regular splash was deemed needed ...

But that was said to be "introduced because one of its properties was self-lubrication for a short period".

One shot is a thin grease (pretty much a mix of ep and molygrease (I think)) and it will become more liquid as it heats up, therefore it still gets splashed about a bit. Plus it won't drip off totally.

And as I was trying to say to James, if the owner does not do high mileage the grease should stay in and not get thrown out of the UJ journals ...
but if it does not liquidise enough to get to the needle rollers, it may come back to bite you ...

Still not had a problem using the oil, saves adding another tin of stuff to the dozens of petrochemicals in the shed!
Another nice thing about the oil is the certainty afforded by the level plugs for visual check.

Naughtily, I have been known to put a tube of One-Shot into a transfer gearbox to shush it up a bit ...

We used use the 160 weight gear oil out of Sunbeam motorbike trans if it wuz really bad!

most running one shot in swivels are also using some in the diff by leakage ,though it wont cure a worn bearing

I can put it in a diff ... speshully if it ain't my vehicle ...
Many types of additive ... like Moly get added to lubes ... Oo err ...
