Hi' looking for a bit of advice!!!
While changing a set of wheels recently I found a huge amount of play on the front offside wheel
I've been reliabily informed that it's the swivel pin bearings that have gone!!! I've also had a knocking noise when on full lock and I'm assuming that the c,v joints are going!!!! or would the bearings cause the knocking???
Would it be advisable to get the swivel pin replacement kit I've seen from Paddocks and do the c'v joints at the same time? is there anything else that should be checked/replaced at the same time also?
Haven't done any of these before but willing to have a go if it's not too big/hard a job!!!

Thanks
George.

Suggest you have a word with Rik on this forum, he has just had the exact job done this weekend, swivels and CV's both sides, now a smooth as silk. you may also want to change/grease up the wheel bearings at the same time. Whether its a job for an expert, is a matter of opinion, as for the size of the job, yes its pretty big and VERY dirty with mix of greases. I have done/been involved with it 3 times now and I would now give it a go, if its your first time and your unsure, get some help
cheers

if yours is 300 type then you will have a brg top and bottom 606666g timken only not kit brgs ,if earlier you will have 606666g brg at bottom and bush and pin at top ,they require seal plate taking of back of swivel housing ,and drine members removing, hubs removing ,stub axle removing ,cv can be pulled out then and checked holding either side of cv there should be no to very little rotational free play in cv,dont undo bolt swivel pin doesnt need removing ever, removing top is enough to allow swivel housing to come off ball, bushes have slight chamfering to allow for seal clearance and should face seal, swivel housing with bush should be set using shims with out seal fitted to 8lbs -10lbs pull on steering arm and later double brg type to 2lbs only when refitting cv needs to be pulled outwards to seat properly when tightening stub axle bolts and drive member bolts
