does anyone have any experience with the protection of the chrome swivel ball. on my rebuild it dont/didnt have any and both front ones are shot. i see that they do a leather one and a rubber one (price difference not much). would you recommend putting protection on? if so which one? or another alternative (cheaper) to help protect the new ball when its put back in.

I've heard an argument against saying that if you get water and mud in the rubber or leather gaiter it will do more damage than not having any protection.

I've got no actual experience though, just what i've heard.

I suppose it depends what you intend to use your landy for - road running then they are probably worth it to protect from all the c**p on the road. For lots of off-roading nothing but a good clean down at the end of a session will really help!

The military put leather ones on and when I restored a 1984 lightweight a few years back they were in perfect nick. Depends how often its going to be used. If used regularly I think they will be okay without but I am fitting leather ones to my 1970s Ser2A when restoring it. It has them on just now and they are OK.

what photos would you like posting Joe?

Sorry I wasn't clear, pics of the leather gaiters. Mine has never had them, swivels are in average condition, will need repalcing one day. Just intersted to see what the gaiters look like and how they attach...
