Would it be kosher to swap a hub and bearings from one motor to another without swapping the bearing lands on the stub axle? I managed to frig my rear hub up trying to helicoil one of the half shaft bolt threads at the weekend and want to "borrow" one off the other motor until a new set arrives. Both bearing races and bearings look good and they're both the pre-rationalisation type.

OK - a bit of restatement, here. The bearing cup and cone are the entire bearing "set". Yes, you can swap them as long as the stub axle itself isn't buggered up - that's not a problem.

For a bit of clarity, the cup is the bit that's set into the hub with the angled surface. The cone is the bit with all the rollers that slides onto the stub axle.

If you're talking about using the cones from the old hub in the cups of the new hub don't do this - they need to be kept as a set once they've got some miles on them.

Thanks, sorry my original question wasn't very clear.

I think I'll risk driving with just 5 bolts instead of six for now then...not much difference than the past 6 months when the 6th bolt has been loose. It just looks worse!
