Hi, Quick question, will a 2.25 petrol fit into a diesel series 3? Or do i need to change anything like gearbox etc?

yes

no

some sundry items will need changing like wiring, fuel filter etc

most people do the conversion the other way round - or put a 200Tdi in

Do you reckon it can be done by a retard like me with no experience or will i have to pay large sums of very hard earned spondulics to someone with a larger brain pan?

yes

i believe even BoB is currently swapping an engine

you will need to buy/hire/borrow/construct some form of engine hoist

and you will need a few (standard) tools to do it

and somewhere you can keep the vehicle where it doesnt need to be moved incase you have to nip off to casualty

I've already lost so much blood when i put the pairobollicks on it, might get in touch with the blood bank see if i can get a couple of pints to keep in me fridge in case.
When you say standard tools, wot do you mean? Will i need more than a lump hammer?

if it's one of those swiss army lump hammers then no that'll be all you need

I did a complete re-wire on my Series 2A (and did a good job of it if I don't say so myself) - the engine "loom" is very easy as they are very simple engines.
