Swapping block and head from discovery onto defender

Recently I purchased a defender and unfortunately brining it home the lower rad hose popped and the engine blew up. (temp gauge was also broken)
With the car only being worth £3000 it seems the only way to save it would be to put a discovery engine back in because the 11j defender engine costs a fortune.
I am more than certain that every bearing, ring and bore in the engine is decimated because it now sounds like a bag of hammers.

My question is can you swap the ancillaries from a 11j defender engine onto a 12j discovery or is this not possible.
I know this has been talked about a lot. However before i buy an engine i need to be dead sure. In other threads is unclear, people contradict eachother. I need somebody who has actually done it before to tell me.
