Does anyone know the size of the shock top nut please?

Pretty sure it is M12 but what pitch?
1.25, 1.5, 1.75??

One of mine has come loose again and want to fit metal rim lock nuts.

Not sure why the slightly squashed type new nut that I fitted has come loose twice?

I have bought FL2 nuts which have the nyloc insert.

A linked question, I am changing someone's strut top bearing and as it is on the lhs to avoid removing the electrics and boxes, if I compress the spring on the car, is there any reason why I can't then undo the top centre nut to sdrop the strut, fit the new bearing and replace??

You can access the centre nut but the three mounting nuts require the electric key boxes to be moved.

Anyone see any problem with this approach? Thanks.

I think you'll find the messing about in the wheel arch more work than simply unscrewing the fuse boxes and moving them aside. Trying to do things the easiest way almost always ends up taking twice as long, don't ask how I know. ;)

Hi Andy, where did you source the top strut mounting/bearings from ? My rears are knocking but are ok with a full tank & or full boot load. Also are all the dampers & springs on TD4s (except the sport) the same, if so do you have any recommendations ? Mine clocked up 170,000 today & I think it's high time I replaced the dampers/springs & top mounts all round. Thanks in advance.

Changed shocks and has springs powder coated but top mounts were fine. Just changed the front bearing that sits on top of the spring. Obvs the rear doesn't have one of these unless you have the 4 wheel steering option!!! :D

Front bearing is available on the bay of E. Get a recognisable make as you don't want to be doing it again soon.
New delphi shocks made it corner like new rather than like sitting on a jelly baby!!

Your other question about springs. Td4 springs are all the same I believe but the auto and manual have different fronts. Probs due to weight of jatco being heavier than the manual box.

Hi andyfreelandy, I'm finally getting round to replace my dampers, all 4, I know the p.no's for the non sport suspension on the rears are RPM000020 R/H & 30 for the L/H.
Do you know what make of damper that was fitted originally to the 04 TD4's TRW/Delphi etc ? There seems to be 3 different Britpart dampers alone ! I've also seen TRW/Meyle/Optimal so there's plenty of choice but I don't want to end up with the sports dampers. I know you the used the Delphi damper's was that all 4 & did they give a decent ride ? Mine seems a bit crashy over bumps instead of absorbing them. I've got the top mounts fr. & rr. already so it's just the damper choice I'm pondering over. Many thanks in advance.

I bought Delphi all round from AF Factors in Southampton. Just looked up TD4 and found part numbers on their website.
The sport had shorter springs too so best avoided.
Mine is spot on now. I think the originals were Delphi but not 100%. Have your springs powder coated while you are at it!! Obvs replace top front mounts and bearing too.

Hi

The delphi are the genuine one. If you buy them from landrover you will have delphi …

And also delphi provides them under BWI brand.

I've ordered some Meyle units as I can't find a set of Delphi's (apart from the odd one). I'll be tackling the rear first, inc. wheel cylinders, shoes & brake pipes so I'll get the springs coated too, thanks for your help it's much appreciated.
