Suspension Sag?

Right,

I have fitted some nice new parabolic springs and WHOA what a diffrence.

One problem the rear right hand corner of the land rover used to sag on the old springs and it seems to be doing the same with the new ones?

Its really quite alot...

Im not really sure what the problem is, twisted chassis?

I hope not as I cant be assed with a galvo yet as i havent got the time.

Let me know your thoughts.

In the Haynes manual there is a nice technical drawing of the chassis with dimensions which you could use to check that your spring hangers are in the correct position. I would suspect that the springs are at fault though. I have a straight replacement chassis on mine and the standard new Britpart springs I've fitted lean badly to one side.

Hi,

Did you fit (did you know) that Land Rover fitted a stronger spring on rear of driver's side? Even then, the driver's side will eventually sag.

Look at the swinging shackles on rear springs. They should both be at about 45 degrees. If the saggy side is flatter than the other side, think about why. One reason could be that somebody has done a chassis repair, and welded things on too far back.

It is just possible .......... slacken off all locknuts, slacken of the spring-eye bolts. Hold a barn dance in back of your Landy, then tighten everything again.

Mine was quite badly sagging on one side after fitting paraboloics.

A lot of rocking the landie side to side and bouncing around off road and it is starting to level up, though not quite right still.

My conclusion is that it is a Land Rover, it wouldn't be right if it was all square and proper like!

Hi Guys,

I dont belive it to be the springs as the problem was appartent with the leaves that I have just taken off.

It could be the front spring mount, where the bolt goes through. The hole was quite big, maybe the spring is riding flatter than it should as the ankor points are futher appart due to wear?

I will have a look at it later, I will have to be quick. I dont want to turn into an icicle.

The original springs are handed, its possible they were not put on the correct way around,the drivers side should be higher than the passengers, to take in to account the fuel in the tank and the driver, they very rarely go south, they just need taking apart cleaning and oiling, parabolics? waist of time in my opinion, mine on the original springs will do as much as parabolics if not more, and better on the road
