After two years of nearly complete neglect & daily use, shifting junk, pulling my trailer, pulling cars out of ditches etc, my Disco 2 finally needs some TLC :)

Suspension is clunking, banging, creaking, knocking, generally sounding like bits are falling off, so I'm launching a full assault on the bushes and links. I'm sure the watts linkage bushes are shot, as well as the front shock mountings, I'll also do the ARB links and bushes at the same time (done once before about 3yrs ago when I switched from ACE to standard set-up)

I'll have a 12T hydraulic press, and plenty of penetrating fluid, besides the normal grunt and cleaning off corrosion, any particular pitfalls to be aware of ?

Thx

Surely that should be: 'switched from ACE to non-standard set up
Depends on your frame of reference.... by "standard" I mean bog standard non-active suspension... I removed the ACE completely and fitted the ARB's and links from a Disco2 that didn't have ACE... but I guess it could be interpreted as non-standard as my Disco originally came with ACE.... either way I'm sure you get the picture :)

Just been on holiday for two weeks.... building myself up to tackling my Discovery suspension problems. Drove the car yesterday, for some reason suspension was all quiet ?? As I got home and parked up, I saw something behind the front drivers side wheel.... it was the drop link from the anti-roll bar !! The ball joint had separated, with the ball still in the top chassis mount and the link rod flapping around on the bottom joint. Well that's the main part of the noise identified then.

I replaced all these as well as the bushes around 15,000 miles ago. What's the expected lifetime ? I guess the ball had been hammering around inside the joint for ages, but I'm surprised it actually separated, I though they were crimped closed ?

Anyhow, I've got new front shocks to fit, plus new ARB bushes and links this weekend. I'll do the back next as they were fitted at the same time as the front. This along with new watts linkage bushes should have it all sorted.

Not D2 specific but anti roll bar links are infamous for being damaged by potholes.
