hello all,just recently had new bushes fitted which i hoped would remedy the chirping noise when travelling over uneven road surfaces,but this irritating noise still persists.can anyone suggest which other parts i may need to replace?
 
no its on the back of the transfer box to give you 4 wheel (well 2 wheel really) drive on your car if the wheels slip.

they cost £275 for the part and if you dont get it fixed the axel wind up will break summit like an axel or tranny box or summit
 
front of transfer box front output flange bolts directly to it,your vehicle is equal 4 wheel drive with same torque going to both axles viscous ensures both axles get the same torque,while allowing some rotation so that you dont get wind up in transmission while cornering,you check it isnt seized solid as can happen by jacking one wheel up preferably front so you can leave hand brake on and turning with large bar on wheel nut ,it should turn slowly stiffly and smoothly if wheel is locked replace viscous unit ,can be done with transfer box still in vehicle
 
could that be the chirping noise i get when travelling over potholes etc?if i rock the car from side to side,it makes the same chirping noise.i thought it may be the shocks,but if i bounce the front end all is quiet.
 
shouldnt think so but still test it if solid will take a diff or other weak point out as well as excessive tyre wear,bushes or shocks
 
i would also check ujs in props you have to remove one end to prove joint isnt seizing and while one end off check slides move this could cause noise
 
prop has sliding joint at one end it allows prop to lengthen shorten while suspension moves up and down as distance between axles and transfer box alters depending on hieght if they seize it can put pressure on ujs and diff brgs and t/box output brgs
 
i never thought about that,makes good sense.what would you recomend i lubricate it with?ive got a tub of copper slip,or will i need a special lube?
 
you can try but usually replacement is the answer,but dont pull one end out without marking both parts as they have to be aligned properly
 
doesnt matter where it bolts on axle or transfer box just the two halves of prop have to be aligned with each other good luck
 
hello all and sorry for delay in feedback.tried the checks as advised,everything seems fine.found the chirpping noise was one side of the front bumper not tightened properly:eek::):)although the ride does seem a little harder since having bushes replaced(is this normal?)thanks for the suggestions guys
