Found out I've lost a bump stop on the rear... I found this because of a bang when gentle greenlaning and the odd speedbump.

Replacing the bump stop is obvious, but it also highlights how tired my suspension is.

So new suspension all round for me wagin is on the cards.

Question - As i've got 235/85 AT2's on backorder, do I go for Standard, HD or +2"?

Car is mostly used for 1 or 2 fat bastards, occasionally loaded up, tow bar waiting to be fitted but only for small trailer - roads round here are ****e, but there are quite a few corners.

I'm liking the idea of a slight lift to save chopping the body as much and I know the HD will sit about the same height as +2", however i'd like my fillings (if i had any) in my teeth not on the floor!

Opinions Peeps?

With hindsight I'd go for +2" springs and dampers on medium weight. Currently running standard HD's and when it's full and/or we're towing the caravan it's fine. Most other times it's a harsh ride.

When empty it's not nice. With just the wife and two kids in it's OK ish, the larger tyres might be helping a bit, but as soon as we get another towcar I'm replacing the HD's for mediums +2" and medium dampers also +2". I used to mostly carry a fair bit of kit so it evened out, but now it's mostly wife and I and not so much kit .. even when laning with full kit in it's still harsher than I'd like and green-laning and off-roading is compromised by the heavier springs, grip is lost slightly and so is flexibility/compliance.

Regularly cocking a wheel in the air so looks stupid too .. ;)

Thought i rememered reading you had HD's fitted Paul...

Sounds like the choice is standard or +2" now then

Not overly chuffed with the idea of a lift kit though, all sounds a bit chavvy! lol
Would you ever consider refitting new standard springs and shocks?

I would consider going back to standard, but one reason for me saying I'd fit +2" isn't for it being a lift as such, but that for a given load the amount of droop of the suspension is negated somewhat. It does help off-road a bit I think, and the medium weight springs, for me, seem about right. Mind, I don't have a winch on and if/when i do get one there'll be a lot of kit taken out of the Disco to compensate for the weight, like rear seats, carpeting etc

Other reason I'd go for longer springs and shocks is that I also want larger tyres, as I'm on 31" tyres now, a move to 33" or 35" would need some alterations, at present they just rub the outside arches, so cutting would sort that, but I don't like seeing large tyres crammed into wheelwells, I like a bit of room round them!

When we get around to it and have the money we're changing the wifes car for something that will tow the caravan, at which point the Disco will become my 'toy' almost .. and that's when I'll start to make it more off-road-able, which really is longer travel, softer suspension than we have at present .. Till then I'll suffer the road oriented compromise .. ;)

T'was what I was thinking of doing this summer, might have to re-think it if a HD set-up is that harsh:(
