Hi all.
Sorry if this has been discussed before (please move/delete if needed)

Going to be ordering new suspension for my 3.9 classic this weekend and would like some advice please.

Have seen no end of suspension kits, single items for sale. And loads of threads about fitting different springs and shocks etc.

What I would like to know is.

Whats the best set up to go for.
I do some grasslane type driving but mainly road driving atm.

Also seen Police spec springs, Heavy duty, standard, lift springs (standard and heavy duty)

Can I go with the HD lift kit without other mods like longer brake hoses and radius arms.
Any advice is appreciated

Heavy duty springs will give you about a 1" lift by the very nature of them being stiffer
You can comfortably go to a 2" lift without requiring extended brake hoses - I would question why though if most of your use is road work, the lift will make it handle like ****
Police spec springs are about the cheapest out there - standard height will give you the 1" lift mentioned above
Beware of Bearmach blue springs - they give a hellish choppy ride on classics cos they are so damned hard
Deflex bushes are fine - use them all the time with no probs
I would go for police springs and a set of gas shocks (ES 9000's are ok ) for what you intend doing

Thanks Kenny. I'll go for the Police spec springs.
Only wanted to go a little higher to get the gas tanks further from the ground. But if it effects road drving don't think I'll lift it.

Have britpart HD springs in mine, with another 1" block for the rear to compensate for the extra constant weight of the gas tank.....no more bottoming out...

HOWEVER, the rides did get a bit on the stiff side and loosing some comfort on city driving, but gained motorway stability..

Have not replace the shocks (de-carbon, i think) yet as they still perform pretty good...

In summary, I wouldn't go for +2" as dont off road that often and hence dont see the needs of bigger tyres. Either police spec springs or HD springs will do IF you carry extra weight all the time (eg lpg gas tanks). If not, I would actually prefer the rides with standard springs.

Unfortuneately I have to change all of the suspension (shocks, springs and bushes) as they are all shot. The vehicle sits down 2 inches on the passenger side and 3 on the drivers.
I don't mind having a stiffer ride as used to having cars with lowered and harden suspension.
