They just unscrew I think you have to remove them to do the headliner on a p38

Are you talking about the sunroof sunshade?
Yes Alan, the sunroof sunshade. Sorry I should have been more specific. The thing that slides back behind the headliner. I have mine permanently back because the covering is sagging so much it's almost off and doesn't look very nice.
Look at my "How to" it might show pics, then you will know.... but I think its not an easy job

Mines was getting saggy So i removed the cloth .might paint the panel ,But then again i can live with it the way it is doesn't look too bad Naked ..... ...RR

It was from reading the factory Workshop manual which led me to think that it was possible, but I had my doubts because of what I've seen others post but since you've confirmed it I'll give it a try.

It's been a long time but if you open the sunroof,remove the wind deflector ,remove the plastic trim on the n/s of the glass carrier to gain access to the torque bolts that hold the glass I think you can loosen the runner and jiggle the shade out. You may have to completely remove the glass but thats only the plastic trim and two torque bolts on the o/s.I should have done a how to,maybe next time.
+1 it can be done without too much trouble.
There are some silly plastic clips at the edges that you will almost certainly break, which keep it snug in the channels. I covered minein PU "leather", and if you take the material to the edges of the sunshade, the thickness of the PU is enough to keep things sliding as intended.
I wasn't racing but it was maybe an hour to an hour and a half, working from the top, to remove first the glass, and then the sunshade

From memory we took the headlining out to recover it but didn't want to remove all the sunroof rails, etc so I think I removed the glass and with a little gentle bending got it out and back in again
