Hello

Anyone got any tips on how to stop the sunroof leaking on a 10 year old freelander 1 ?

The frame where the glass joins seems to have become rusted and on its way to being rotted above the drivers area, letting in water.

Ive used rags to swab up the water. i.e rolled up and placed against the frame and glass.

Is it a new complete sunroof or any remedies to cure?

Cheers in advance

I've replaced a rusted sun roof for a similar problem. It wasn't a fun job and so I'd be reluctant to do it again. Are the drain tubes clear? If they block up, water spills in.

Do you have any photo's of the damaged area it is the sunroof frame or the rails that the sunroof sits in ? mine was the frame and I replaced it job done will try and find out the pics I have Arctic2

V6 where are the drain holes ?

I wouldnt mind but the sunroof fits tight in its housing and the weather seal around the glass looks ok. Havent a clue where and how its getting in!

See pictures, just the drivers side. Waters making its way right round the whole of the sunroof, I've had to put rags in the troughed areas at the back and front to stop it spilling into the cabin area.

1st noticed it when it was chucking it down, and saw water dripping from the plastic trim around the sun roof slide !!

And before you ask, Ive always had the roof shut when its been raining.

Drain tubes are in the corners of the frame. If one is blocked, the water that gets through the roof seal can't drain away. This generally over spills wetting the roof lining. That amount of rust isn't causing a problem. I'd slap some rust converter on it and forget it.

V6, had a look for these drain tubes.
Do you or anyone else reading have any pictures of them?
Do you have to take sunroof out to view them?
Heres a picture of the far right corner.

Cheers nodge68

Any idea where those drain pipes run to?
Inside the windsreen supports, through the inner wings?
Looks like you have to take the whole lot out, there should be drain ports in the frame.
From the state of decay and rust area, I'd say the glass was leaking.

The drain tubes are fed through the A pillar and drain into the sill cavity. This can cause rust in the sill cavity too.
The drain tubes can sometimes be seen in the A pillar behind the kick panels.
Rust flakes and other debris can block them at the top.

Need to do something quick, leaking quite bad now on the opposite side ha ha :(

Duct tape is a good temporary fix. Just remember that the adhesive will need removing from the paint later on. It'll get you through the winter though ;)

I bought a new sunroof, put it in and pulled the fuse for it, nice light in but no water, no problem.

The only way to stop it is to replace the sunroof glass and frame as one, I had the same trouble when I first bought the TD4 FL 1 last year in October, one of the first jobs I tackled.

Very interesting as mine's just started to leak. I'm being quoted £700 plus for the frame.
Anyone help re. where to go for a sensible price?

There is a "sunroof glass seal" for £40, sounds like its the bit to stop leak

The seal isn't a weather seal as such. It's more of a soft closing surface along the glass edge to stop whistles and wind noises. It's the channes under the glass that catch water that inevitably drip through which stops the roof lining getting wet. The gutters have drain tubes that allow any dripped water to drain away down the A pillars. If the headlining is getting wet, then it's normally the gutters rusted through or a drain tube blocked with rust debris.
